RE: Protection of Akali Phula Singh Samadh in Hazara Dist, KPK

Dear Sir,

My name is Kirpal Singh Dhaliwal currently residing in California, USA and I have been a businessman and entrepreneur for over 30 years. I came across a news article recently about acquiring the houses of Indian cinema legends Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar to preserve them, which were declared as national heritage sites by the Pakistan government. This is much appreciated as they were great legends of Indian Cinema. But I want to bring your attention to the real great legend of the region - Akali Phula Singh, who was a General of Mahraja Ranjit Singh and a great warrior of his time. He achieved martyrdom in the Battle of Nowshera, Pakistan.

I personally visited the Samadhi of Akali Phula Singh in November 2019. It is situated on the banks of Lunda (Kabul) River in Pir Sabaq near Nowshera. I was so disheartened to see the dilapidated condition this historical place was in. This property has hundreds of acres of land attached to it which was, and is, a very important historical shrine for Sikhs, particularly pre-partition. I was told by the caretaker that the land is now leased to Department of Agriculture for research by Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB). The buildings are standing without roofs and nobody is there to take care of them. The spot where Akali Phula Singh was cremated used to have a pedestal made of marble and all surrounded by thick glass walls right on the bank of Lunda River. I am attaching one photo of this site.

We are humbly requesting your assistance in preserving this historic shrine. It needs urgent restoration and conservation as per archaeological and structural standards. This should not cost much as your department will not have to buy it and whatever costs are associated to preserve it, we, the people residing in USA and Canada, are willing to provide the funds necessary. We request you to please take a personal interest in this project and let us know how we can help. Please feel free to contact me via the contact details above

Yours Faithfully,
